About This Event
It was a day of celebration and inspiration in Ilogbo-Ekiti as the Ilogbo High School Alumni Association honoured outstanding students for their academic and moral excellence during the annual Prize Giving and Award Ceremony. The event, themed “Celebrating Excellence, Inspiring Greatness,” brought together alumni members, teachers, parents, and students at the Rev. J.O. Olugasa Hall. Founded in October 1974, Ilogbo High School, located in the Ido/Osi Local Government Area of Ekiti State, remains one of the enduring legacies of the late Oba Elijah Jegede, the then Owalogbo of Ilogbo-Ekiti. Over the years, the school has produced many distinguished personalities, including professors, medical doctors, lawyers, engineers, lecturers, teachers, and other professionals excelling in diverse fields. Prince Idowu Jegede, President of the Alumni Association, stated that the awards were designed to encourage academic excellence, discipline, and leadership among students. “We constituted a special committee this year to make the programme more impactful and to ensure it motivates the students to perform better academically,” he said. He also urged parents to provide necessary learning materials and support school rules to enhance academic outcomes. The Principal of Ilogbo High School, Mrs. Omonijo Veronica, commended the alumni for their continuous support, describing their contributions as a reflection of commitment to quality education. “We’re truly grateful to our alumni. Their efforts continue to uplift the school and inspire both staff and students,” she noted. In a related development, the school’s Parent-Teacher Association inaugurated a new executive, with High Chief Olowo Oladele emerging as Chairman, in a move aimed at strengthening discipline and restoring order within the school system. During the ceremony, the Alumni Association donated a deep freezer to the principal’s office, while best graduating students received practical items such as gas cylinders and mattresses to support their progression to higher institutions. A total of 20 students from JSS1 to SS3 were recognised as the best performers in subjects including English and Mathematics. Nine students received non-academic awards for excellence in leadership, discipline, and creativity. Each awardee was presented with textbooks, school bags, customised exercise books, past-question compilations, certificates of excellence, and other educational materials to encourage continued academic growth. A distinguished award of honour was also presented to Dr. (Chief) Lola Awosusi, in recognition of his contributions to the community. Among the student awardees were Adeyemi Temidire, Fadairo Olajire, Anifowose Precious, Akanni David, Otewogbola Rebecca, and Abidakun Miracle. Prominent dignitaries included Dr. Omojola Awosusi, Global President of the Ilogbo-Ekiti Descendants Union, alongside several community chiefs. With renewed commitment from all stakeholders, Ilogbo High School continues to advance its mission and is poised to reclaim its position among the leading secondary schools in Ekiti State.
